Earn your CDL at Northwest State, powered by Keller Trucking
Northwest State is now enrolling students for their 5-week Truck Driver Certificate Program. The program provides students with the skills required to qualify as an entry-level Professional Truck Driver. Students will acquire skills in maneuvering, cornering, backing, and parking through a variety of urban and rural environments. Once you’ve completed the program and obtained a Class A CDL, Keller will work with you to make sure you are ready to hit the road safely and confidently by pairing you with one of our Professional Drivers for 5 weeks. From there, you will be on your way to start earning what you’re worth as a Professional Driver with Keller Trucking!
- Year One: Up to $45,000+
- Year Two: Up to $60,000+

Frequently Asked Questions:
What is the timeline, start to finish?
You will need to get your CLP (Commercial Learners Permit) prior to beginning the Truck Driver classes at NSCC. From there, enroll in classes and, if applicable, see if you qualify for Financial Aid by visiting the Northwest State Community College website or calling them directly at 419-267-1249.
The classes are 5 weeks long. Next, you will be ready to officially test for your Class A CDL by taking the written and driving test. If you then chose to continue your journey with Keller, we will pair you with one of our Professional Drivers to train for 5 weeks (hint: we will train, not team- watch out for that when exploring your options). From there, you will become a solo driver with Keller Trucking and chose what position best fits you and your family’s needs.
What's the difference between the Truck Driver Certificate and a CDL?
The certificate shows you have obtained the skills necessary to be out on the road safely and have attended an official school to do so (hint: most respected trucking companies will need proof of this). This certificate prepares you to take your CDL driver test; it does not automatically result in the issuance of your Class A license. Your CDL is your Commercial Driver’s License; you must have a Class A CDL to operate any vehicle with a gross combination weight rating of 26,001 lbs. or more.
After completing the courses at Northwest State, am I obligated to drive for Keller Trucking?
No! Our hope is that you do join our fleet, but there will be no contract in place to do so. However, we are a company that is close to home, and can get you home, while also providing you with higher, more stable paychecks. At Keller, we’ll know you by name, not truck number.
What are the details regarding my potential earnings?
Trucking is unlike any other industry, so pay may be hard to grasp when first starting out your new career. Keller believes you should always be making a stable paycheck, so along with the standard mileage pay, we also offer a guaranteed pay and several pay increases. It will be highly likely you earn $45k your first year, and upwards of $60k your second year (our top earners are in the high $70s). The breakdown for a Regional Driver is below and are all paid weekly.
- First 5 weeks with the trainer: $125/day
- 1-6 months: $.34/mile, safety bonus $.03/mile, $700+ guaranteed
- 7-12 months: $.36/mile, safety bonus $.03/mile, $800+ guaranteed
- 1-2 years: $.40/mile, safety bonus $.03/mile, $900+ guaranteed
- 2+ years: $1000+ guaranteed, with mileage increases for the first 5 years
What can I expect while with one of Keller's trainers?
Expect a professional, hard-working, intelligent driver that will teach you what you need to know before hitting the road solo. Your trainer will be just that, in the seat next to you commenting on the job you’re doing, good or bad. Respect will be expected from both parties as you’ll be working and living together for 5 weeks.
