Women In Trucking Association Names Thomas E. Keller Trucking as a 2024 Top Company for Women To Work in Transportation

Redefining the Road, the official magazine of the Women In Trucking Association (WIT), has announced the recipients of its prestigious “Top Companies for Women to Work in Transportation” award.

Keller Trucking has made the list for the second time within the last five years.

Established in 2018, this award highlights companies that excel in promoting gender diversity and supporting women in the primarily male trucking industry, a key element of WIT’s mission. According to Jennifer Hedrick, President and CEO of WIT, the award serves to shine a spotlight on companies committed to enhancing opportunities and eliminating barriers for women in trucking.

The Women In Trucking Association, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging women’s employment in trucking, celebrating their achievements, and reducing obstacles in their careers. With 17% of its members being men, WIT fosters a diverse membership united in support of its mission. Through initiatives like this annual award, WIT continues to address gender equity issues within a historically male-dominated industry.

According to Brian Everett, publisher of Redefining the Road, the companies recognized on the list exhibit several key characteristics. These include corporate cultures that promote gender diversity, competitive compensation and benefits, flexible work policies, and numerous opportunities for professional development and career advancement. The selection criteria also include companies’ participation in the WIT Index, an industry benchmark measuring the representation of women in critical roles within transportation.

The 2024 award list encompasses a variety of company types within the trucking marketplace, from motor carriers and third-party logistics providers to original equipment manufacturers. This diversity showcases the breadth of the trucking industry’s commitment to supporting women in various roles and functions.

“Companies named to this prestigious list must demonstrate corporate attributes that are essential to any successful enterprise committed to gender diversity as part of their corporate strategy,” said Everett. “The selection process is thorough, involving a two-step process: nominated companies must meet minimum qualifications, after which a final ballot is put to a vote by industry professionals.”

This year’s program saw over 31,000 votes, a record turnout underscoring the importance of recognizing gender diversity initiatives in transportation. This recognition program stands as a testament to the growing acknowledgment and support for women in transportation, paving the way for a more inclusive and diverse future in the trucking industry, something Thomas E. Keller Trucking is excited to be a part of.

“Throughout my career at Keller Trucking, and other Keller Logistics Group Affiliates, I have felt empowered, respected and valued.  Continuing education and training opportunities have always been encouraged and Keller has always been wonderful about acknowledging accomplishments made by employees.  As a female in an industry that has traditionally been run by males, I love that Keller Trucking goes above and beyond for ALL employees,” stated Keller Trucking Director of Safety, Sarah Cates.
