What is Operation K.A.V.I.C.

Operation K.A.V.I.C. stands for: Keller Assists Veterans In Crisis. Operation K.A.V.I.C. is a fund that was created by Keller Logistics Group to prevent local veterans from enduring financial crisis. Fundraising for the program is done by asking business partners, local businesses, and community members to sponsor or donate to the annual Veterans Appreciation Dinner held annually in November

Last year we were very excited to announce that we raised over $40,000 to fund the efforts of Operation K.A.V.I.C. in 2017.  So far this year, we’ve spent a little over half of the money raised to support active duty, veterans, reservists, and national guard members when they are about to endure a financial crisis.

What Does Operation K.A.V.I.C. Help Pay For?

Operation K.A.V.I.C. offers support where veterans benefits may not. Over the past 7 months, we’ve been able to assist those in need by paying bills in the following categories:

• Utility Bills – 11%
• Medical Bills – 18.5%
• Funeral Expenses – 15%
• Rent -27%
• Food – 5.3%
• Car Repairs – 3.4%

Other categories in which the Operation K.A.V.I.C. fund can help are: helping purchase tools for a new job, tax payments, and bank account overdraft fees.

Annual Veterans Appreciation Dinner 

Our 3rd Annual Veterans & Family Appreciation Dinner will be held on Saturday, November 4th at the Defiance Eagles from 4:30 – 6:30. Along with the usual soup cook-off, kids activities and door prizes, we’ve added guest speaker, Ken Leslie founder of 1matters.org to speak about his organization that helps house homeless veterans and tell a few jokes!

All veterans and their families are invited to the fun, free, family event; no RSVP is required.

A Few Operation K.A.V.I.C. Assistance Stories:

• Last year, a Vietnam veteran had to travel to Washington D.C. to appear before the VA Board of Veterans Appeals and he had very limited funds to travel on. The Operation K.A.V.I.C. fund was able to provide money for gasoline and food so the veteran could testify before the Appeals Board.
• Recently, a nursing student who is also in the reserves and working part-time had come down with food poisoning during finals week. A few weeks later she received her bill from her emergency room visit; it was well over $1,000. The Operation K.A.V.I.C. fund was able to assist the reservist with her unexpected medical bill.
• “Mr. Keller and his crew have done an amazing job. This is unique to the state of Ohio to have a charitable fund like this, not only for Veterans but for Active Duty, Reservist & National Guard. We have helped so many families…. I wish they [donors] could see the relief that comes across that persons’ face when they know that they are not alone. How to Qualify for Operation K.A.V.I.C. Assistance:

Operation K.A.V.I.C. assistance is available to all active duty, veterans, national guard and reservists that live in Defiance County, Ohio. To find out if you qualify, all you need to do is contact the Defiance County Veterans Affairs Office. They can be reached by phone at: 419.782.6861.

How to Donate to Operation K.A.V.I.C.:

We partner with Ravens Care of Defiance to manage the Operation K.A.V.I.C. fund. If you feel compelled to personally donate to the fund, you can mail a check to: Ravens Care of Defiance C/O Operation K.A.V.I.C., 511 Perry St., Defiance, Ohio 43512.
